BJP reveals candidates for Gujarat Assembly bypolls on May 7

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidate list for the upcoming bypolls to the five Assembly seats in Gujarat. The bypolls are scheduled on May 7, coinciding with the Lok Sabha elections, to fill the vacant seats left by resigned MLAs. Dr. C.J. Chavda, Arjun Modhwadia, Arvind Ladani, Chirag Patel, and Dharmendrasinh Vaghela are the nominated candidates.

Arjun Modhwadia, a veteran Congress leader of 40 years, resigned from the party citing feeling suffocated, leading to a major shift in Gujarat’s political landscape. All candidates, except Dharmendrasinh Vaghela, were previously Congress MLAs who joined BJP. This triggered the need for bypolls in these constituencies.

The opposition, primarily the Congress party, has not yet announced its candidates for the by-elections. It is unclear whether Congress will contest all the seats or form an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The upcoming bypolls will be closely watched as parties gear up for the electoral battle in Gujarat.
