BJP to field new faces in Delhi LS polls, former Mayors announced as candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has introduced two new faces, Harsh Malhotra and Yogendra Chandolia, as candidates from East and Northwest Delhi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Malhotra, the BJP candidate for East Delhi, is a former Mayor of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Similarly, Chandolia, contesting from Northwest Delhi, is a former Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The BJP’s decision to field new candidates aims to bring fresh leadership into the political landscape of the national capital. In the previous two Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had swept all seven seats in Delhi, showcasing its stronghold in the region. These latest nominations signal a strategic change in the party’s campaign approach for the upcoming polls.

On March 3, the BJP had disclosed the names of five candidates for Delhi, including Bansuri Swaraj, Praveen Khandelwal, Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat. Only Manoj Tiwari, the sitting MP from Delhi, has been renominated, indicating a significant shift in the party’s candidate selection process.

Notably, Gautam Gambhir, the sitting MP from East Delhi, has opted out of the electoral race this time. The party’s decision not to re-nominate prominent Delhi MPs such as Parvesh Verma, Ramesh Bidhuri, Meenakshi Lekhi, Hans Raj Hans, and Harsh Vardhan highlights a strategic reevaluation in candidate choices. The BJP is gearing up for a competitive electoral battle in Delhi, as it prepares to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
