Boat collision causes collapse of Baltimore city bridge
The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after a ship collided with it, leading to several vehicles falling into the Patapsco river. Local authorities are currently trying to rescue at least seven people who were affected by the incident. The Maryland Transportation Authority has closed all lanes as traffic is being detoured.
The Baltimore Fire Department’s communication director, Kevin Cartwright, mentioned that emergency responders are actively searching for the individuals believed to be in the water. The authorities were alerted to the situation around 1:30 a.m. local time when a ship collided with a pillar on the bridge, causing it to collapse. Several vehicles were also on the bridge at the time of the incident.
As per a video posted online, a large ship caught fire after the collision and ultimately sunk, causing chaos and disruption.
