Body of fourth missing fisherman discovered in Tripura
The body of the fourth missing fisherman was found a day after the recovery of three bodies in Tripura’s Dhalai district. The fishermen died when their makeshift ‘Mancha’ collapsed due to a Norwester wind at Dumboor Lake. Officials confirmed the tragic incident and the recovery of all four bodies.
The fishermen often stayed in the makeshift ‘Mancha’ inside the lake for fishing activities. Unfortunately, due to the Norwester wind and rain, the platform collapsed, causing the four fishermen to fall into the deep waters. The state disaster management personnel were able to recover three bodies on Sunday, with the NDRF personnel joining the search operation to find the fourth body on Monday.
The incident took place at Dumboor Lake, a famous fishing water body located 120 km south of Agartala. The bodies of the deceased fishermen have been identified as Haridas Das (46), Jyotish Mallik (50), Pradip Das (45), and Sanjit Nandi (55). Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his condolences and stated that the state government would support the families of the victims during this difficult time.
Situated near Dumboor Lake is Tripura’s lone hydel power project, from where the state’s main River Gomati originates. The recovery of all four bodies brings closure to the tragic incident as officials and rescue teams worked tirelessly to locate the missing fishermen amidst challenging conditions.
