Bruce Oxenford and Paul Wilson to retire from Cricket Australia National Umpires Panel

Bruce Oxenford and Paul Wilson, two esteemed Australian umpires, have announced their retirements from the Cricket Australia National Umpires Panel after the current domestic season, with their final on-field game set for the Sheffield Shield match between Western Australia and Queensland at the WACA Ground from March 1-4.

Oxenford, known for his 62 Tests and 97 ODIs as an umpire, spent 13 years on the ICC Elite Panel before returning to the Cricket Australia National Umpiring Panel. Wilson, with experience on the ICC International Panel, will continue umpiring internationally in franchise tournaments.

In a statement, Oxenford expressed gratitude for the support and friendships throughout his career, looking forward to new challenges off the field. Wilson thanked Cricket Australia for the opportunity, acknowledging the profession enabled him to be part of unforgettable cricket matches and make lifelong friends.

Both umpires, Oxenford and Wilson, believe it is time to pass on the reins to the next generation of Australian umpires. Cricket Australia’s Match Officials Manager, Luke O’Brien, praised their contribution to the sport and expressed a desire to see them stay involved in cricket in some capacity.

Oxenford, known for sporting a forearm guard as a shield during matches, will be remembered for his unique approach to the game. As they prepare to close this chapter in their careers, their legacy in Australian match officiating is expected to endure for years to come.
