Bugatti Bolide features largest carbon brakes ever made, measuring a massive 15.3 inches
Bugatti has unveiled its track-only hypercar, the Bolide, featuring the world’s largest carbon brakes at a whopping 15.3 inches. With 1,801 bhp under the hood, the hypercar requires serious braking force, which the massive Brembo carbon brakes promise to deliver.
According to Bugatti, the Bolide’s stopping power comes from an eight-piston mono-block caliper setup in the front and a six-piston caliper setup in the rear, all made with nickel-coated aluminum. Each brake grips 15.3-inch carbon discs, with the front wheels receiving slightly thicker brake pads and rotors.
Introduced in 2020, the Bugatti Bolide made waves at various car shows and even tackled the Goodwood hill climb. Recently, it underwent wet-weather testing at Imola, where the 1,451 kg hypercar with 1,801 bhp was put through its paces in the rain, showcasing its extreme capabilities across all conditions.
Bugatti plans to start delivering the Bolide hypercar to customers in 2024, with only 40 units to be produced, each carrying a price tag of around $4 million. Brembo’s Chief Operating Officer, Mario Almondo, described developing the braking system as a unique and exciting challenge, re-engineering the entire system to match the car’s power and performance characteristics.
