Cabinet approves addition of two new metro lines in Delhi at a cost of Rs 8,399 crore

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the development of two new Delhi Metro corridors — Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha — with an investment of Rs 8,399 crore. The total project cost will be sourced from the Central government, the government of Delhi, and international funding agencies. These two lines will comprise 20.762 kms and are part of Delhi Metro’s Phase – IV project.

The Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will be entirely elevated with eight stations, connecting the Silver, Magenta, Pink, and Violet Lines. The Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor will have 11.349 kms of underground lines and 1.028 kms of elevated lines with 10 stations, providing connectivity to the Bahadurgarh region of Haryana.

Additionally, eight new interchange stations will be developed at key locations along these corridors to improve interconnectivity among all operational lines of the Delhi Metro network. The construction is expected to be completed by March 2026 in stages, as part of the Delhi Metro’s fourth phase of expansion.

The Delhi Metro, which currently operates a network of 391 kilometres with 286 stations, is rapidly growing and has become one of the fastest-growing Metro networks in the world. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has already initiated pre-bid activities and preparation of tender documents for the new corridors, signaling progress towards their development.
