CEC: India’s total voters surpass electorate of many continents combined

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the Lok Sabha election schedule in New Delhi on Saturday, revealing details on the voter list, polling booths, number of EVMs, and security protocols. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, shared these details at a press conference.

With 96.8 crore registered voters in the country, including 49.7 crore males and 47.1 crore females, the magnitude of the Lok Sabha polls was emphasized by CEC Kumar. Over 10.5 lakh polling stations, 1.5 crore polling officials and security staff, along with more than 55 lakh EVMs and 4 lakh vehicles, will be deployed for the elections.

Highlighting the ECI’s track record of successfully conducting numerous elections, Kumar mentioned setting a “golden standard” in the electoral exercise. Notably, there are 1.8 crore first-time voters and 19.74 crore voters aged 20-29 years, along with participation from PwDs, elderly voters, transgenders, and centenarians.

The scale of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections reflects a massive democratic exercise in India, with millions of voters across various demographics participating in the electoral process. The ECI’s meticulous planning and implementation of security measures aim to ensure a peaceful and fair conduct of the polls.
