Centre announces Rs 2.5 lakh crore worth investment proposals in chip sector received by India

India is emerging as a key player in the semiconductor sector with investment proposals worth over Rs 2.5 lakh crore. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar highlighted this at the ‘India Semiconductor and Packaging Ecosystem Conference’, emphasizing the country’s shift from talent provider to investment destination.

Chandrasekhar stated that the government is focused on attracting investment in semiconductor manufacturing and packaging while also prioritizing research and innovation in the industry. He mentioned the upcoming semiconductor packaging plant in Assam worth nearly Rs 25,000 crore, in collaboration with the Tata Group.

The minister expressed optimism about India’s growing presence in the global semiconductor ecosystem, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term expected to bring more significant developments. India’s role in the semiconductor value chain is set to expand and become more impactful in the coming years.

The government’s commitment to fostering a competitive ecosystem centered around innovation, packaging, semiconductor and chip design, was reiterated at the conference. The event highlighted India’s progress from being absent in the semiconductor industry to attracting investments and building capacity across various sectors.

As India continues to make strides in semiconductor technology, stakeholders in the sector are optimistic about the country’s future prospects. The government’s focus on research, innovation, and attracting investments bodes well for India’s semiconductor industry’s growth and development in the years to come.
