Centre approves Rs 1,935cr worth highway projects for Himachal, Uttarakhand

In a recent development, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari approved highway projects worth Rs 1,935.7 crore in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The projects aim to improve connectivity and promote tourism in the hill states.

According to Gadkari, the approval includes upgrading the road from Kalar Bala village to Nauni Chowk on National Highway-205 in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan and Bilaspur districts to 4-lane with painted shoulder at a cost of Rs 1244.43 crore. This project will enhance connectivity to key areas like Shimla, Kangra, Dharamshala, and Mandi, as well as improve access to Darlaghat and AIIMS.

Additionally, clearance has been given for the construction of a 6 km long 4-lane Kotdwar Bypass on National Highway-119 in Bijnor and Pauri districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand at a cost of Rs 691.70 crore. Gadkari noted that this bypass will help reduce congestion in Kotdwar city, enhance connectivity with Uttar Pradesh, and boost tourism development. It will also improve access to pilgrimage sites like Kedarnath and Badrinath Dhams.

These highway projects are part of the government’s efforts to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in the hill states, ultimately benefiting the local residents and promoting tourism in the region.
