Centre approves Rs 6,621 crore for construction of 265 km Frontier Highway in Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the allocation of Rs 6621.62 crore for the construction of eight packages on National Highway-913 in Arunachal Pradesh, known as the Frontier Highway. The project spans 265.49 Km and will be implemented through the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.

The project includes sections like Huri-Taliha, Bile-Migging, Kharsang-Maio-Gandhigram-Vijaynagar, and Bomdila-Nafra-Lada. Gadkari emphasized that the development of these highway stretches will enhance connectivity to border areas, promoting socio-economic growth in the region. The construction of the Frontier Highway aims to curb migration and facilitate reverse migration towards the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

Moreover, these highway stretches will play a crucial role in establishing essential road infrastructure connecting significant river basins, enabling the development of numerous Hydropower projects within the state. The predominantly greenfield road is designed to link uninhabited and sparsely populated areas of Upper Arunachal, promoting tourism and anticipating increased traffic due to heightened tourism activities in the future.

The project is anticipated to bring significant development to the region, offering economic opportunities and improving connectivity to remote areas. The allocation of funds for the construction of the Frontier Highway in Arunachal Pradesh showcases the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in border regions, aiming to boost economic growth and connectivity in the area.
