Centres to Establish 10 AI Labs in 10 Kerala Colleges, Allocates Rs 2,000 Cr for Startups

The Central government has announced the establishment of 10 artificial intelligence labs in colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, with Rs 2,000 crore set aside for startups. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that the labs will be a blend of government and private institutions as part of the IndiaAI Mission.

Minister Chandrasekhar emphasized that the AI labs will have state-of-the-art infrastructure provided by global tech companies, aiming to support young Indians and startups. The IndiaAI Mission, with a financial outlay of Rs 10,371 crore, aims to harness AI for various sectors like health, agriculture, and education.

The goal of the initiative is to develop innovation centers that utilize AI for the benefit of the Indian digital economy. The labs will focus on areas such as medicine discovery, security, governance, and language translation. The provision of 10,000 GPUs for AI computing will be crucial for startups in Kerala and beyond.

The allocation of Rs 2,000 crore to finance startups is aimed at addressing the lack of adequate AI compute resources among young entrepreneurs. The move is seen as a significant step towards promoting innovation and empowering the youth in Kerala and across the country.
