Chaitra Navratri Day 5: Chaitra Navratri is the festival of worship of Goddess Durga, the goddess of power. During this nine different forms of Maa Durga are worshiped every day. This is the fifth day of Navratri. Goddess Skandamata, the fifth form of Maa Durga, is worshiped on this day. It is a religious belief that worshiping Skandmata fulfills all the wishes of the devotees. Worshiping Goddess Skandamata is considered beneficial for getting children. The same mother Skandmata is also considered the goddess of happiness and peace. Devotees who worship Mother Skandmata get happiness, peace, and auspiciousness. This year this day is being celebrated on Wednesday, April 6. Skandmata is considered to be the defining form of Mother Durga.
According to religious beliefs, Skandmata got this name because of being the mother of Skanda i.e. Kumar Kartikeya. Kartikeya is also called the commander of the gods. According to the belief, a demon named Tarakasur did severe penance to please Lord Brahma. Pleased with his harshness, Brahma Ji appeared to him. Tarakasur asked for the boon of immortality from Brahma. On this Brahma, Ji explained to Tarakasur that the one who has taken birth will have to die. Everyone was troubled by his atrocities. Everyone got upset and reached Shivaji. He prayed to Shiva to free him from Tarakasura. Then Shiva married Parvati and became the father of Kartikeya. After growing up, Kartikeya killed Tarakasur. Skandmata is the mother of Kartikeya.
It is believed that by worshiping Mother Skandmata on the fifth day of Navratri, all the troubles in life are removed. Also, if the mother queen becomes happy, then all the health-related problems go away. Especially if there is any skin-related disease, then to remove it, worship Mother Skandmata with full rituals today.
