Four Arrested in Attempted Murder Case in Chennai
Chennai, Feb 18 (IANS) Four individuals have been taken into police custody in Chennai for their alleged involvement in an attempted murder case, as per the police statement on Sunday.
The individuals, reportedly members of a gang led by a man named Rajesh, were arrested over the course of Saturday and Sunday. Their arrest follows an attack on Yogesh, a member of a rival gang, near Chettikulam ground in New Washermanpet on Friday.
The police reported that Yogesh, 26, was viciously assaulted with machetes and sickles, resulting in grave injuries. The attackers fled the scene, and Yogesh was rushed to a nearby hospital by local residents, where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Yogesh himself had prior cases of murder and attempted murder lodged against him, having been involved in an attack on a member of a rival gang back in September 2023. Following this incident, the leader of the rival gang, Rajesh alias Dorai Rajesh, orchestrated an assassination attempt against Yogesh.
Rajesh, 35, was apprehended on Saturday and subsequently provided information on the whereabouts of his accomplices. U. Raghupathy, 29, was arrested in Royapettah, while S. Dineshan, 23, and V. Sasitharan, 24, were apprehended in Tiruvottiyur. All four accused have been remanded to judicial custody, as confirmed by the police.
