Chennaiyin head coach Coyle remains optimistic about Top-6 finish in ISL 2023-24

Kolkata, March 30 (IANS) With the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 in its final stage, seven teams are vying for the remaining two playoff spots. Chennaiyin FC, currently 11th in the table, are optimistic about their chances under head coach Owen Coyle, who believes they can secure a top-six finish by performing well in their remaining matches.

Chennaiyin, with 18 points, are just three points behind sixth-placed Punjab FC. They have four matches left this season, starting with a crucial clash against Mohun Bagan Super Giant after the international break. The team will face a tough challenge as they aim to secure a playoff spot.

“We still have a real chance this year of going to the top six… Had we won the last game as we should have, we’d actually be sitting in the 6th position with a game in hand,” said head coach Coyle, highlighting the importance of securing positive results in the upcoming matches.

Despite Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s strong form and their qualification for the playoffs, Coyle remains confident in his team’s abilities. He emphasized the need for a positive mindset and a strong performance to overcome their opponents in the upcoming match.

Striker Connor Shields echoed Coyle’s sentiments, acknowledging the challenge ahead but expressing confidence in Chennaiyin’s ability to deliver a complete performance and secure a favorable result against a quality opponent.

The match between Chennaiyin FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant is set to kick off at 7:30 PM IST at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Fans can catch the live action on Viacom18 and JioCinema as the race for the ISL playoffs intensifies.
