Children’s Day is celebrated every year on 14 November in India. It is the day especially for children and on the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was fond of children very much. Children’s Day in India started from the birthday of that great leader, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and among children he was addressed as ‘Chacha Nehru’. In 1954, the United Nations proclaimed 20 November as International Children’s Day. But in India is celebrated on 14th November on the birth day of Pandit Nehru. It is observed by protecting children rights and concentration on their education and health. Also it spreads its awareness on such problems as a child labor, exploitation of a child, as well as the lack of their rights.
Pandit Nehru always believed that children should get proper guidance and love in childhood. As per him, the mental and physical development of children is achievable only in a good environment. He loved children and believed that children have innocence, truth and integrity and inspire the grown-ups.
On children’s day, special focus is on child rights. Children should have the right to education, the right of living in a safe environment along with chance to growth and development of the body and brain. Different statutes and organizations are trying to conserve child rights in India. Steps like ‘Child Protection Act’ have taken with an objective to make the future of the children safe.
Children Day is primarily about protecting children’s rights and enhancing their status in the society. As a result of these programs, several educational and social programs are arranged on this day that spreads awareness towards children. This day represents that a child should be provided with education, health, and a secure life. Besides this, it is a day to realize responsibility toward children and their rights in the society.
