“Chill Guy” meme is the brainchild of Philip Banks, an artist based in North Carolina.
Philip Banks is highly visible on social media platforms and commands a following of 20,000 and 60,000 followers on Instagram and X platforms.
The character he created, “Chill Guy” meme, is an adorable canine in a man’s attire and sports a sweater, blue jeans, and sneakers.
In a Q&A session in October 2023, Philip described it as a cool character with a devil-may-care attitude.
“Chill Guy” meme has now become an astounding hit, and from a nondescript beginning as an artwork shared on X, it has gone viral.
‘Chill Guy’ Meme Coin
It has hit the crypto arena as a meme coin and has surged over 538% in a couple of days.
The meme coin is named CHILLGUY and features the face of the dog character, much akin to the meme coin DOGE, and its value has surged by more than $400 million.
The “Chill Guy” meme has also featured in social media marketing ads for brands like Sprite Europe, March Madness, and NFL on CBS.
However, the man who created the “Chill Guy” meme is now going to enforce copyright on the image.
Banks wrote on X on November 21:
“Just putting it out there, the chill guy has been copyrighted. Like, legally. I’ll be issuing takedowns on for-profit related things over the next few days.”

Banks also categorically stated that he will not allow his creation to be used for anything crypto-related.
Banks said:

The “Chill Guy” meme is distinct due to its calm and relaxed demeanor coupled with a slightly discernible smirk. It doles out advice about reducing stress and is also effective because of its simplicity in animated form.
The character has gone viral across a wide array of social media platforms such as X and TikTok and has spawned numerous memes and videos. The “Chill Guy” meme also appears on the official X handle of El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele.
