In a bid to challenge Tesla’s dominance in the electric mobility industry, China’s BYD has set its sights on supercar giants like Ferrari and Lamborghini. Introducing the Yangwang U9, BYD’s latest electric supercar is making waves in the automotive world.
Priced at 1.68 million yuan (approximately ₹2 crore), the Yangwang U9 is BYD’s priciest model yet. With top speeds of 309.19 kmph and acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.36 seconds, this electric supercar is matching some of the most audacious supercars globally.
Equipped with four electric motors, each delivering a peak power of 240 kW, the Yangwang U9 offers a combined peak power of 960 kW. Additionally, with a strong emphasis on thermal management systems, the supercar can operate efficiently even in high-temperature conditions.
BYD’s Blade Battery technology is a standout feature in the Yangwang U9, enabling faster cooling and supporting ultra-fast charging of up to 500 kW. Furthermore, the technology to control all four wheels independently enhances stability and safety while driving the supercar.
With a claimed range of 450 km per charge, the actual range of the Yangwang U9 will ultimately depend on driving conditions. Its futuristic design includes gullwing doors, slim LED headlights, a large front grille, and 20-inch alloy wheels, giving it a distinctive and striking appearance in the supercar segment.
The supercar is also equipped with 12 active and passive aerodynamic packages to reduce drag coefficient and enhance heat dissipation efficiency. BYD’s foray into electric supercars signals a new era of competition in the industry, as the company aims to establish a strong presence alongside established luxury carmakers.
