Chinese Citizen Zijie Li Charged for Repeated Trespassing at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach

A Chinese citizen, Zijie Li, 39, of El Monte, California, has been charged with trespassing and is in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail on Friday morning.

As per court records, Judge Donald Hafele set his bail at $100,000. The Chinese citizen was arrested in July also for attempting to trespass Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club.

Zijie Li was also restrained from entering any of Donald Trump’s properties, including Mar-a-Lago, and the judge has banned him from carrying any weapons.

Li was earlier detained after he was charged under the Baker Act following an Oct. 30 incident near Mar-a-Lago. The Baker Act allows authorities to detain a person for 72 hours for a mental health examination. In the above incident, Li was trying to get help from a resident to enter the Mar-a-Lago premises.

According to a release by police, Li had tried to solicit the help of a resident and asked if she could drive him there in her vehicle. The resident refused, became suspicious, and informed the police.

Police stated on Thursday that Zijie Li was released from detention before it was revealed that a police detective assigned to the protected area of Mar-a-Lago had detained an Uber with Li as a passenger at the club’s south gate entrance.

The entrance is manned by a combined team of U.S. Secret Service personnel, Palm Beach sheriff’s deputies, and Mar-a-Lago security, according to an arrest report released Friday by Palm Beach Police. Li was kept under detention until the police arrived and took him into custody.

Suspect Made Earlier Attempts Also

According to police, Zijie Li had earlier tried to gain access to Mar-a-Lago on July 19. He had arrived at the estate’s main gate on South Ocean Boulevard in a gray Toyota Prius. He told the Secret Service agents that he had documents showing China was involved in the July 13 assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Trump was not at the estate at that time. Li was given a written warning that he would be arrested if he attempted to trespass Mar-a-Lago in the future.

It was also revealed that Zijie Li had been in Palm Beach on four previous occasions and had driven up to the checkpoint but did not enter Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence. Security measures have been put in place around the president-elect in Florida following his election win.
