Chinese paddlers’ dazzling performance at WTT Champions Incheon

Incheon (South Korea), March 28 (IANS) – The WTT Champions Incheon tournament witnessed all top Chinese paddlers advancing to the last 16 on the second day. Sun Yingsha, Chen Meng, and Wang Manyu secured victories in the women’s singles, while Fan Zhendong excelled in the men’s singles competition.

Sun Yingsha, the world’s top seed, dominated Japanese player Miu Hirano with a 3-0 win. Chen Meng defeated French paddler Prithika Pavade to set up a clash with Japan’s Miwa Harimoto, and Wang Manyu defeated Germany’s Nina Mittelham to progress to the next round.

In the men’s singles, Fan Zhendong displayed a stellar performance against Sora Matsushima from Japan, winning in just 16 minutes. Fan is set to face off against German player Patrick Franziska in the quarterfinals.

The tournament, marking the first WTT Champions Series event of 2024, has attracted the world’s top players competing for a prize pool of 300,000 U.S. dollars. The champions in each category will also earn 1,000 ITTF world ranking points, making it a highly anticipated event in the table tennis calendar.
