Cong accuses Yusuf Pathan of violating MCC by using Tendulkar’s photo in campaign

The Congress has lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer against former cricketer Yusuf Pathan for allegedly using Sachin Tendulkar’s photo during election campaigning in Baharampur. Pathan is contesting on a Trinamool Congress ticket against Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and BJP nominee Nirmal Kumar Saha in Murshidabad.

According to the Congress, Pathan used images of India’s 2011 World Cup victory, including those of Tendulkar, to garner political support. The party argued that such sentiments should not be exploited for political gains in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In Baharampur, Pathan is competing against seasoned politicians like Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and popular figure Nirmal Kumar Saha. The use of cricketing icons’ photos has sparked a controversy, with the Congress seeking action against Pathan for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The Congress called on the state poll panel to investigate the matter and ensure fair play in the electoral process. The use of iconic images from India’s cricketing history has raised concerns about the ethical standards of election campaigning and the exploitation of national pride for political advantage.
