Congress and BJP rely on allies to secure victory in South Goa constituency

In a crucial development ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Goa, both the BJP and Congress are relying on regional parties to secure a win in the South Goa seat. The BJP is banking on the support of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), while the Congress is looking towards the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for assistance.

The South Goa seat is pivotal for both national parties, as the party that gains the backing of MGP or AAP is likely to emerge victorious due to their significant vote share in the constituency. The MGP, which has historically held sway in key constituencies such as Marcaim, Ponda, Shiroda, and Sanvordem, could play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the election.

MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar emphasized the party’s influence in South Goa, stating, “With our support to BJP for Lok Sabha, we will win this seat with at least ten thousand margin.” He highlighted the track record of parties aligning with MGP in past elections and the significant impact of their support on electoral outcomes.

The entry of national parties into Goa’s political landscape had diminished MGP’s dominance, leading to fluctuating alliances and power dynamics. Despite these changes, MGP continues to hold influence in key constituencies, making them a sought-after ally for parties seeking to secure victory in the South Goa seat.
