Congress announces new list of candidates for Odisha Assembly elections

The Congress party in Odisha announced a fresh list of candidates for 75 Assembly constituencies, with three changes in the nominees. Devendra Bhitaria, Upendra Pradhan, and Bipin Bihari Swain have been named as replacements for different constituencies.

Devendra Bhitaria will now contest from the Talsara Assembly segment, replacing Prabodh Tirkey. Upendra Pradhan takes over the Baliguda seat from Surada Pradhan while Bipin Bihari Swain replaces Chiranjeevi Bisoyi in the Kabisuryanagar constituency.

The new list includes both new faces and veteran leaders, such as former state unit chiefs Niranjan Patnaik and Jayadev Jena. Pruthvi Ballav Patnaik and Dr Debasmita Sharma, relatives of former political figures, will also be contesting in the upcoming elections.

Susmita Singh Deo, a member of the Dhenkanal royal family, has been nominated for the Dhenkanal Assembly constituency. The party has declared candidates for 119 out of the 147 seats in the state, leaving two seats in Sundargarh for Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and CPI-M.

This move by the Congress party showcases a mix of experience and new talent being fielded for the upcoming Assembly elections in Odisha.
