Congress denounces freezing of party funds, labeling it as a ‘criminal act’

The Congress party, led by its top brass, protested against the freezing of its funds by the Income Tax Department in a press conference. Rahul Gandhi accused the ruling party of crippling the Congress’ election campaign, citing the penalty of Rs 200 crore for an old case of Rs 14 lakh.

Congress President Kharge condemned the discriminatory behavior of the ruling dispensation, alleging a concerted attempt to derail the party’s election campaign. He criticized the government for blocking funds while benefiting from illegal electoral bonds, urging constitutional bodies to ensure a level-playing field.

Sonia Gandhi and Treasurer Ajay Maken also criticized the government for freezing the party’s funds and hindering their advertising and publicity campaigns. They accused the ruling party of targeting the Congress to gain a political advantage, highlighting the unfair treatment and harsh penalties imposed on the party.

The Congress leaders called for constitutional bodies to allow access to the party’s bank accounts without restrictions and ensure a fair electoral process. They emphasized the need to protect democracy from undemocratic actions and prevent the ruling party from manipulating the electoral outcomes in its favor.
