Congress nominates Ajay Rai against PM Modi in Varanasi, Digvijaya Singh in Rajgarh for LS Polls
The Congress party recently released its fourth list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, including 45 nominees. Notably, Ajay Rai will be challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi, while other prominent candidates include Digvijaya Singh, Imran Masood, Karti Chidambaram, and Danish Ali, among others.
In this list, Congress has fielded candidates from various states like West Bengal, Assam, J&K, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The party left the Nagaur seat in Rajasthan for the RLP, showcasing a strategic move in seat distribution.
Ajay Rai, a five-time MLA from Uttar Pradesh and a local strongman in Varanasi, will be contesting against Prime Minister Modi. Meanwhile, names like Imran Masood, Karti Chidambaram, and Manickam Tagore have been fielded from Saharanpur, Sivaganga, and Virudhunagar respectively, representing a mix of experience and new faces.
The list also includes candidates like Kantilal Bhuria from Ratlam (ST) in Madhya Pradesh and Danish Ali from Amroha in UP, bringing a diverse mix of leaders to the forefront. With these nominations, Congress aims to cover a wide range of constituencies and demographics in the upcoming elections, as they continue to finalize their candidate list.
