Congress slams BJP Govt for rising road accidents, crimes in Goa

Panaji, Feb 24 (AINS) – Congress criticized the BJP government for the increasing number of road accidents and crimes in Goa. AICC Media Incharge Harshad Sharma highlighted that in 2023, 532 lives were lost due to road accidents, with over 2800 incidents occurring last year. On the eve of New Year, 98 road accidents were reported.

Sharma, along with GPCC General Secretary Vijay Bhike and Virendra Shirodkar, expressed concern over the lack of measures taken by the government to address the issue. He pointed out that in the first 16 days of February, nine fatalities were recorded in road accidents, despite the state observing February as road safety month.

Vijay Bhike raised concerns over the increasing crime rate in the state under the current government. He highlighted the rise in cases of rape, molestation, theft, and drug activities, questioning the Chief Minister’s claims of ensuring safety. Bhike criticized the government for prioritizing events and revenue generation over public safety.

Bhike also criticized Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho for making irresponsible statements and failing to address road safety issues effectively. He called for the Minister’s dismissal, citing the government’s negligence in maintaining proper functioning of traffic signals and ensuring public safety.

The Congress representatives emphasized the need for urgent action to address the alarming trend of road accidents and crimes in the state. They called for accountability and urged the government to prioritize public safety over revenue generation and event organization.
