Controversy Erupts as YouTuber Nerdrotic Faces Accusations of Racism and Manipulating Audience Sentiment
YouTuber Gary, better known as “Nerdrotic,” has been the target of grave criticism.
On August 3, 2024, a Twitter user by the name of @MinuteNerdNews came after him in a tirade. According to him, this is one creator who harms the community out of his gluttony for money.
Nerdrotic Under Fire for Alleged Racial Comments and Exploiting Viewer Emotions
In particular, according to @MinuteNerdNews, Nerdrotic and his crew are accused of conducting the general sentiment by blowing petty issues all out of proportion, which feeds the viewer’s disaffection, otherwise colloquially referred to as selling “outrage and anger.”
He lambasted Nerdrotic for praising only some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies as biased towards films with “White, male, and straight” protagonists. The user noted that very few MCU movies lost money at the box office; if anything, only two have grossed over $1 billion in Phase 4.
Furthermore, @MinuteNerdNews accused Nerdrotic of making racially insensitive remarks. They pointed out one comment in particular concerning the lack of male characters in Wakanda, which the user implied had racist undertones. The accuser called him flat-out a racist and even went as far as saying that he might as well admit to being a white supremacist.
The barrage of criticism went as far as to include ad hominem attacks: Nerdrotic is, in his very nature, negative and driven by some form of addiction to hate, which fuels the engagement on his channel.
Nerdrotic addressed these accusations with a speech to his fans on August 4, 2024, on a popular Elon Musk social media site. He posted a picture of Jeremy “TheQuartering,” another infamous web character, captioned to insinuate he was being unfairly attacked: “Good morning. My channel is under attack.” He made light of the extent of the accusations in a retweet from @DramaAlert, showing he isn’t taking the accusations seriously.
Nerdrotic is one of the most famous YouTubers who is known for giving critical reviews on movies and television shows. He has more than 1.08 million subscribers on his channel.
