One has heard influencers and political commentators getting embroiled in controversies. However, late food influencers on TikTok have stoked controversies for the flimsiest reasons.
These denizens of the culinary world can be seen deriding restaurants for their supposedly lack of services or locking horns with others by their statements which are often innocuous but end up offending a section of the society.
Foodie content creator Cookingwithkya had to endure a barrage of online hate comments and her attest videos which she uploaded in December caused a huge uproar among netizens especially TikTok users.
What is the Cookingwithkya controversy? Read on to know more about it.
For the unversed, Kya launched her TikTok account in May 2023 and most of her content featured her dancing to the app’s popular sounds or showing herself off in endearing attire.
Later in 202,4 she decided to diversify and showcase her cooking skills.
The videos which she released include recordings of breakfast, lunch and dinner and her characteristic jingle “Cookingwithkya, Cookingwithkya” always plays in the background followed by the lyrics, ‘I dare you to hear it and not have it stuck in your head for the rest of the day!’
It was a perfectly innocuous update in December 2024 and Kya commenced her video with her routine “One, two, Kya’s coming for you” punch line holding a plate of breakfast and alerting women to cook for their men.
Kya said,
“Wake up and make your man some breakfast before I do,”
She followed it up by opening a can of whipped cream and putting some of the contents in her mouth.
Kya started to showcase her cooking skills as she prepared breakfast. However, the viewers of the videos instead of being more concerned about the state of the eggs and pancakes were more eager to express their displeasure, especially to the phrase “before I do”
One fan caustically remarked,
“OK, but where is your man??”
Another fan scoffed.
“My face scrunched up so hard,”
A third user retorted,
“Came to see. I saw, and I’m not worried,” a third user stated.
The controversy shows no sign of cooling down with one user going to the extent of stating that some women aren’t the “girls’ girls” they claim. A majority of these caustic comments came from women.
Kya responded to the negative comments and in a post dated December 9, she answered to one such user with a curt,
“Does it look like I care?
