Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh named in USA’s T20I squad against Canada; Unmukt not included

Former New Zealand fast-bowling all-rounder Corey Anderson has been named in USA’s 15-man squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Canada, starting on April 7. This series is crucial for the USA team as they prepare for the Men’s T20 World Cup, where they are the co-hosts alongside West Indies.

Anderson, along with Harmeet Singh, Milind Kumar, Andries Gous, Shadley Van Schalkwyk, and Nitish Kumar, are the new faces in the USA squad. Anderson, who last played for New Zealand in 2018, became eligible to play for the USA after moving to the country during the announcement of Major League Cricket (MLC).

Harmeet, the former India U19 spinner, captained Seattle Thunderbolts to the MiLC trophy in 2022. Milind, a former RCB batter, earned his spot in the squad after a good domestic run. Gous and Van Schalkwyk, who moved from South Africa to the USA, have been rewarded for their consistency in the domestic circuit.

Nitish Kumar, the former Canada captain, will face his former side after crossing over to the USA in 2021. However, Unmukt Chand, the former U19 World Cup-winning captain for India, is a notable omission from the squad led by Monank Patel, with Aaron Jones as the vice-captain.

Monank Patel stated, “With the ICC T20 World Cup looming, this series holds immense significance for our team. We have some new players coming into the squad, and these games will help us get the right combinations and prepare well for the World Cup.” The T20I matches between USA and Canada will take place from April 7-13 at the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston, Texas.

The USA team will begin their preparations at the Prairie View Cricket Complex on April 1. The squad includes players like Monank Patel (captain), Aaron Jones (vice-captain), Andries Gous, Corey Anderson, and others. The reserve players are Juanoy Drysdale, Saiteja Mukkamalla, and Shayan Jahangir.
