CPM’s LS Candidate Thomas Isaac Jolted Again as ED Summons Him

In a recent development, former Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, who is currently engaged in election campaigning, was asked by the Enforcement Directorate to appear before them on March 12 regarding the issue of masala bonds. Despite being served multiple notices, Isaac has not complied with the directive so far.
A total of Rs 2,150 crore was raised through masala bonds by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) in 2019 during Isaac’s tenure as Finance Minister. This has brought him under the ED’s scrutiny, leading to the current situation where he has been asked to provide all related documents.
Isaac, a former professor of economics and a four-time legislator, did not feature in the CPI-M list for the 2021 elections. His sudden entry into the electoral fray for the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat has raised eyebrows, especially with the BJP and Congress both fielding strong candidates in the constituency.
The Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat, held by Congress’ Anto Antony since its inception in 2009, is now facing a heated battle with Anil Antony, son of veteran Congress leader A.K.Antony, being chosen as the BJP’s candidate. This development adds an interesting twist to the electoral dynamics in the region.
Despite his notable contributions in academics and politics, Isaac’s current predicament with the ED has put his political ambitions at stake. It remains to be seen how this situation unfolds as the election campaign gains momentum.
The Enforcement Directorate’s summoning of Thomas Isaac has led to a challenging situation for the veteran CPI-M leader, who now faces legal scrutiny amidst his electoral campaign. As the controversy surrounding the issue of masala bonds continues to unravel, all eyes are on the upcoming developments in this high-stakes political saga.
