Criminal wanted for attempted murder of two Delhi cops captured

A man identified as Vimal Kumar, wanted for attempted murder of two Delhi Police officers, was captured from an underground hideout in Shahdara. He is an active ‘Bad Character’ with 23 criminal cases against him. On June 29, 2023, police received a tip about his presence and illicit liquor selling at his home.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Surendra Chaudhary, stated, “Vimal Kumar was a notorious bootlegger, who had been externed from Delhi due to Excise Act offences.” Despite his criminal background, his family members attacked the police team sent to arrest him, resulting in serious injuries to two officers. Vimal Kumar had been in hiding but was apprehended from a secret hideout in his house accessed through a cupboard on the ground floor.

The police team acted on specific information and faced resistance from the accused’s family during the operation. The assailant, along with his family members, physically assaulted the officers, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder. Vimal Kumar, after his capture, revealed he returned home to visit his family, showcasing a disregard for law enforcement.
