Cross-border narcotics smuggling attempt thwarted in J&K thanks to alert VDC member

A Village Defence Committee (VDC) member in Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir foiled a cross-border narcotics smuggling bid leading to the recovery of over 8 kg of suspected drugs. The incident took place in Makri village, under the territorial jurisdiction of Bhawani police post, on April 10.

The police stated that the VDC member noticed four individuals moving in a suspicious manner carrying a bag in the village. After alerting other residents, a scuffle ensued, resulting in the apprehension of the bag containing a heroin-like substance.

The suspects, identified as Naveen Kumar, Sukhvinder, Davinder alias Munna, and Shubam, were all residents of Makri village. Police and army teams arrived at the scene and seized a bag with around 8.5 kg of the suspected narcotic substance.

Three of the accused individuals have been arrested and are under investigation, while efforts are underway to locate the fourth absconding suspect. The Rajouri police and Army are jointly conducting the search operation.
