CSK more prepared for captaincy change as Gaikwad takes over from Dhoni in IPL 2024, says Fleming

In a surprising turn of events, Chennai Super Kings announced Ruturaj Gaikwad as their new captain for the upcoming IPL 2024 season, following MS Dhoni’s decision to relinquish the captaincy. Head coach Stephen Fleming stated that the franchise is better prepared for this transition compared to 2022 when Ravindra Jadeja took over briefly.

Fleming revealed that Dhoni made the decision to hand over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, indicating a well-thought-out plan for the future of the team. The transition in 2022, when Jadeja was appointed captain, was not successful as CSK faced challenges early in the season and Dhoni had to step back into the role.

The head coach emphasized the importance of grooming young leaders within the team and mentioned that the experience from the failed transition in 2022 has helped CSK prepare better for a new captain. He also mentioned that Dhoni will continue to play as a part of the team, offering guidance and support to Gaikwad as he takes on the new role.

Fleming expressed confidence in Gaikwad’s ability to lead the team and highlighted Dhoni’s continued presence as a valuable asset. CSK will open their campaign in the 2024 edition of the IPL with a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. The team is optimistic about the upcoming season under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, as they aim for success in the prestigious tournament.
