CSK’s Rizvi on hitting big in IPL 2024: ‘Had to go out and make it happen’

Chennai Super Kings’ uncapped player Sameer Rizvi, who played a crucial knock in their recent match against Gujarat Titans, shared his strategy of going for big hits right from the start. Rizvi mentioned that he was prepared to smash boundaries, especially against spinners.

Rizvi highlighted the influence of his uncle, Tankeeb Akhtar, in improving his skills against spin bowling. He credited his practice sessions with his uncle for his success in handling spinners effectively in matches. This preparation helped him make a significant impact in the recent match.

Despite not getting a chance to bat in his debut match, Rizvi felt more relaxed and confident in the second game. He acknowledged the initial challenge of transitioning from red-ball cricket to white-ball cricket but eventually found his rhythm and adapted to the format with time.

Sharing his experience of interacting with CSK captain MS Dhoni, Rizvi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play alongside a cricketing legend. He appreciated the support and encouragement from the CSK team, emphasizing the camaraderie within the squad.

With two consecutive wins at home, Chennai Super Kings will face Delhi Capitals in their first away match of IPL 2024 at the ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The defending champions will aim to continue their winning momentum in the upcoming game against a strong opponent.
