The daily cases of corona virus in the country continue to rise and fall. In the last 24 hours, 13,193 new cases of infection have been reported. According to data from the Union Health Ministry, 13,193 new infections of the corona virus have been detected in the last 24 hours. Thus the number of infected in the country has increased to 1,09,63,394. At the same time, 97 people have lost their lives due to infection during this period, after which the number of corona dead has increased to 1,56,111.

According to the data of the ministry, the number of patients who are free of infection in the country has increased to 1,06,67,741. In the last 24 hours, 10,896 patients have defeated the virus and have recovered and returned home after treatment. At the same time, the number of active cases of corona virus in the country has remained below two lakh.

According to the Health Ministry data, the total number of active cases of Kovid-19 in the country is 1,39,542, which continues to be treated in hospitals. At the same time, 1,01,88,007 health workers have been vaccinated with the corona vaccine.

More than 5,000 new cases in Maharashtra after 75 days

In Maharashtra, more than 5,000 new cases of corona virus infection occurred after a gap of 75 days. An official said, ’38 percent of the new cases ie 2,105 patients are from Akola and Nagpur blocks. In Akola block alone, 1,258 new patients have been found, while 542 in Amravati Municipal Corporation and 191 new patients were found in Amravati district.

After 736 new cases of infection were reported in Mumbai, the total cases rose to 3,16,487 while the death toll rose to 11,432 with the death of four more patients. The official said that 1432 new cases have come in Mumbai division and 11 people died after which the death toll has reached 19,735.

Chennai district in Tamil Nadu tops in number of polling stations for upcoming Lok Sabha elections on April 19, with 3,726 stations. Tiruvallur is second with 3,687. A total of 68,321 polling stations in the state for the elections, including 177 auxiliary stations in 19 districts.

Several districts in Tamil Nadu have over 2,000 polling stations, including Chengalpattu, Madurai, Tiruchi, Tiruppur, and more. Villupuram, Virudhunagar, Krishnagiri, among others have between 1,000 and 2,000 stations. Some districts have fewer than 1,000 polling stations like Mayiladuthurai, the Nilgiris, and Perambalur.

In Vilavancode assembly constituency, where a by-election coincides with Lok Sabha polls, there are 272 polling stations. Election campaigning in Tamil Nadu will conclude on Wednesday at 6 p.m., as per the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer.

Delhi Police nab kingpin of narco syndicate, recovers banned drugs valued at Rs 8 crore

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) Delhi Police’s Special Cell has apprehended the kingpin of a drug syndicate, Yusuf Azam, seizing Tramadol capsules and codeine-based cough syrup worth Rs 8 crore. The syndicate was unearthed after the previous arrest of six members linked to his pharmaceutical company, AK Pharma.

In October 2023, police detained three individuals connected to the syndicate, leading to further arrests and seizures. However, Yusuf remained at large until recent developments pointed to his involvement as the main orchestrator.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Manoj C stated, “Through interrogation and examination of records, Yusuf Azam emerged as the primary orchestrator behind the sourcing of psychotropic medications by his associates.”

Despite several attempts to apprehend him, Yusuf managed to evade capture by constantly changing his location. Eventually, a joint effort involving manual and technological resources pinpointed his whereabouts to Transport Nagar, Lucknow leading to his arrest on April 8.

Upon investigation, Yusuf confessed to operating in the illegal drug trade for over 15 years, utilizing his pharmaceutical company as a front to procure and distribute psychotropic medications for profit in the grey market.
