De Minaur advances to Acapulco semifinal with win over Tsitsipas
In a thrilling match at the Mexican Open, Australian Alex de Minaur defeated Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets to secure a spot in the semifinals. De Minaur broke his ten-match losing streak against Tsitsipas with this victory, marking a significant milestone in his career.
De Minaur expressed his relief at finally getting a win over Tsitsipas, stating, “Every time I’ve got to play him I get reminded about my (record in the) matchup. I’m glad I got one on the board. I would like to say that no one beats me 11 times in a row.” This win propelled him to his 23rd ATP Tour semifinal and made him the first Acapulco reigning champion to reach the semis the following year since 2010-12 champion David Ferrer.
The Australian will now face Jack Draper in the semifinals, who has been in stellar form, losing just 11 games in three matches. Draper’s recent success includes a win over Miomir Kecmanovic in the quarterfinals, advancing him to his fifth tour-level quarter-final and his first above the ATP 250 level. This impressive run has also boosted Draper’s ATP Live Ranking to No. 37, marking a new career high for the 22-year-old player.
