Death toll rises to 46 in Bangladesh building fire tragedy

The death toll in a fire at a building in Bangladesh rose to 46, with President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressing grief. The fire broke out in a restaurant on Thursday in Dhaka, spreading to other floors.

39 bodies have been identified, with 32 handed over to families. Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen said, “Most of the injured are critical and we are trying our best to save them.” Patients are facing complications during treatment.

14 people are being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and 8 at Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute for burn injuries. Dhaka Additional Deputy Commissioner AKM Hedayetul Islam mentioned assistance provided to the deceased’s families. Six bodies remain unidentified.
