Deepti Sharma believes that even in defeat, the WPL 2024 team will bounce back

In the 2024 WPL, UP Warriorz bounced back with wins over Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. All-rounder Deepti Sharma credited the team’s belief and learning from early losses for the turnaround. Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu was pleased with her WPL debut and Grace Harris’ performance in the win.

Deepti Sharma mentioned, “We have a belief that even if we lose a match, we will bounce back. A good team always fights and moves forward, so that was our plan. We wanted to learn from the first two games and stop doing things we shouldn’t do.” Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu said, “Finally I got the opportunity to play. I am enjoying with these girls. The support staff is also helping me play at my best.”

The Warriorz’ win left Gujarat Giants winless in the competition. Former India women’s cricketer Reema Malhotra criticized Giants’ batting approach, questioning their ability to build partnerships. She said, “If you can’t build partnerships, you’ll find yourself in trouble. On the Chinnaswamy pitch where you can score runs, a total of 140-150 won’t put pressure on any team.”

Overall, UP Warriorz showed resilience with their comeback wins in the 2024 WPL, while Gujarat Giants are still struggling to find their footing in the competition. The tournament continues to provide thrilling moments and challenges for all teams involved.
