Delhi Chess Association representatives not qualified to vote in AICF election

Chennai, Feb 25 (IANS) The Delhi Chess Association (DCA) exclusion from the AICF electoral college has stirred controversy. DCA President Bharat Singh Chauhan plans to take legal action against the omission. The AICF has published the electoral college, leaving out DCA and Madhya Pradesh, due to the latter’s ad-hoc status.

Chauhan alleges foul play and submits that DCA followed all procedures for inclusion in the electoral college. Despite no suspension or discontinuation of affiliation, DCA’s delegates were not included in the list. The association had nominated representatives for the upcoming AICF elections but faced rejection.

Some sources suggest that DCA might have been disqualified for not conducting elections in violation of the National Sports Development Code, 2011. The situation raises questions about the adherence of all state and union territory affiliates to the code. The AICF elections on March 10 will see participation from a roster of mostly new faces.

A recent Delhi High Court order has directed the Indian government to file a reply addressing several key aspects related to the AICF’s constitution and compliance with sports development codes. The court has also ordered the petitioner, Devbhoomi Chess Association, to submit an affidavit ensuring their own compliance. The future of AICF leadership hangs in the balance as legal and regulatory uncertainties cast a shadow over the upcoming elections.
