Desperate Putin Blocks Access To Google News in Russia!

As the war in Ukraine drags on, President Putin is getting more and more desperate. What the Russian Strongman thought would be a cakewalk, and Ukraine will be on its knees in days if not weeks, is proving to become his biggest nemesis. As the war drags on and Russian casualties mount, public opinion quickly turns against President Putin.

Google’s Stops Monetization Of Ads That Justified Or Promoted The War In Ukraine

To stifle any dissent, Russia is blocking access to Google News. Russia has also been piqued by Google’s action of stopping the monetization of ads that justified or promoted the war in Ukraine. The latest move by Google came after Russia’s state media regulator warned Google against ads that are spreading hate against Russians on YouTube. Similar bans have been enforced on Instagram and Facebook also.

In a statement, Google has confirmed that users are having problems assessing the Google News app and website in Russia. Google has also clarified that there are no technical issues from our end.

Russia’s Telecom Regulatory Authority, Roskomnadzor, has enforced a ban on the Google News app and blocked access to the news.google.com website domain, charging it to spread false and unreliable information pertaining to the war in Ukraine. It added that the US Internet news source enables access to several publications that contain unreliable, publicly important information relating to the course of the special military operation in Ukraine.

The Russian President had recently signed a law that makes it illegal to spread knowingly false news. Stringent punishment amounting to sentences as high as 15 years has also been included against violators.

Other social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have also been banned. Social media sites have become a platform for calls of violence against the invading Russian forces, and hence Russia says it has enforced this ban.
