Devine ruled out of first ODI against England

New Zealand cricketer Sophie Devine will miss the first ODI against England due to a quad strain. Devine sustained the injury in the fourth T20I against England and has not recovered sufficiently to be available for selection. She will aim to be fit for the second ODI at Seddon Park on Thursday.

In Devine’s absence, Melie Kerr will captain the team for the first ODI. Leigh Kasperek will serve as cover for the team in Wellington. Devine will continue her rehabilitation program and be monitored over the next two days to assess her availability for the upcoming matches.

The New Zealand Cricket board confirmed Devine’s absence from the first ODI and stated that she will aim to make a comeback for the second ODI. The team will have to rely on Kerr’s leadership skills in the absence of their regular captain.

It remains to be seen how the New Zealand team will cope without the presence of Devine in the first ODI against England. Fans will be eagerly waiting to see if Devine can recover in time for the second ODI at Seddon Park and make a valuable contribution to the team.
