On this Day, the Physician of the Gods, Lord Dhanvantrai was born. The festival is celebrated two days before Diwali. The festival of Dhanteras is celebrated on the Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. This year (2021), the festival will be celebrated on 02 November.

Significance of Dhanteras

As per Hindu Shastras, Lord Dhanvantri appeared from the Samudra Manthan on the day of Triyodashi, that’s why Dhanteras is also known as Dhan Triyodashi. It is believed, that during Samudra Manthan, very rare and precious objects came out of the ocean like Moon on Sharad Purnima, Kamdhenu Cow on Kartik Dwadashi, Lord Dhanvantri on Triyodashi, and Goddess Lakshmi on the Amavasya of Karthik, and that’s Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on Diwali.

Lord Dhanvantari is considered to be one of the forms of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that any item purchased on this day gives auspicious results and lasts for a long time. If brass is purchased it gives thirteen times more profit. Because Brass is very dear to Lord Dhanvantari.

Puja Vidhi

First of all establish the picture of Lord Dhanvantari in the place of worship. After this, take water in your hand and pray 3 times, then invoke Lord Dhavantri.

After this, offer Roli, Akshat, flowers, water, Dakshina, clothes, Kalava, incense and lamp on the picture.

After this offer Naivedya and chant the mantras of Lord Dhanvantari. After this, do Aarti.
