Did O.J. Simpson’s Former Bodyguard, Iroc Avelli, Possess an Audio Recording of His Alleged Murder Confession? Here’s What We Know

In 2022, Iroc Avelli, a former bodyguard of disgraced NFL star O.J. Simpson, was arrested in an unrelated case.

During the investigation, the police executed a search warrant and recovered several thumb drives from a bag.

However, after Simpson’s death due to cancer in 2024, the Bloomington Police Department in Minnesota was informed by an LAPD detective that Iroc Avelli and his attorney stated that the thumb drives contained a confession recording.

The duo claimed that the drives contained audio recordings in which Simpson allegedly confessed to the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

When Iroc Avelli was arrested in 2022, the bag also contained, besides the thumb drives, live ammunition, as per a report by TMZ. Later, Minnesota authorities obtained judicial permission to examine the thumb drives and their contents.

However, TMZ, quoting Bloomington police, stated that the police found no evidence of a murder confession by O.J. Simpson. Iroc Avelli and his attorney also sought the return of all the seized items, but the judge rejected their plea in 2024.

For the unversed, O.J. Simpson was a star NFL player and represented the Buffalo Bills. However, he was charged in 1994 for the killings of his former wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. Both victims were stabbed to death in Los Angeles.

Simpson was the person of interest, and the police collected all the evidence and charged him with the twin murders, though the knife used for the stabbing was never recovered.

Simpson, along with his attorneys, was supposed to turn himself in at 11 AM at the Parker Center Police Station. He, however, did not turn up and was subject to a low-key pursuit, which was broadcast live on almost all the major television services in the United States.

The police did not aggressively pursue Simpson because he was armed and had threatened to kill himself. He was arrested shortly before 9 PM.

His trial lasted for eight months and he was finally acquitted of all charges in October 1995.

His acquittal led to disbelief, and many Americans dubbed the proceedings of the trial as suspect and a miscarriage of justice.

Simpson was afflicted with metastatic prostate cancer and succumbed to the disease in April 2024.
