Diljit reflects on emails from Imtiaz Ali discussing Chamkila’s perspective in different situations

New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) Diljit Dosanjh received guidance from director Imtiaz Ali to portray musician Amar Singh Chamkila in the upcoming film ‘Chamkila’. The biopic is based on the life of the slain singer known as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’, who met a tragic end in 1988.

Dosanjh revealed that Ali provided him with insights into how Chamkila may have thought in various situations, sharing, “I followed whatever Imtiaz Ali wanted me to do.” The actor-singer appreciated the director’s meticulous approach towards characterisation, which was beyond just the story and dialogues.

The 40-year-old star mentioned keeping the emails from Ali safe and possessing exclusive pictures of the late singer, providing valuable assistance in shaping his portrayal. Dosanjh emphasized the importance of Ali’s guidance in helping him step into the world of Chamkila and bring depth to the character on screen.

‘Chamkila’ is an upcoming Hindi biographical drama directed and co-produced by Imtiaz Ali, starring Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role alongside Parineeti Chopra. The film is set to be released later this month on Netflix, offering a glimpse into the life and tragic demise of the iconic musician.
