Drugs, Indian currency worth over Rs 3 cr seized in Mizoram; six including four Myanmar nationals held

Aizawl, Feb 23 (IANS) – In a significant development, the Assam Rifles and other law enforcement agencies have seized drugs and Indian currencies worth over Rs 3 crore and apprehended six drug peddlers, including four Myanmar nationals, in Mizoram.

In a collaborative effort, the Assam Rifles and Customs officials conducted operations in Siaha and Champhai districts, resulting in the recovery of drugs, foreign-origin beer, and Indian currencies totaling around Rs 1.4 crore. The six individuals apprehended included four Myanmarese and two residents of Mizoram.

The seized items, which also included heroin, were handed over to the Mizoram police for further legal action. This operation comes on the heels of a previous bust where 11.39 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 218 gm of heroin were discovered, valued at approximately Rs 35.19 crore, with three drug peddlers, including two women, arrested in Champhai district.

The authorities continue their efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, with a focus on disrupting the illegal trade and apprehending those involved. The recent operations serve as a testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the citizens in Mizoram.
