Duke University: Acceptance Rate, Ranking, Address, Admission, History, Notable Alumni, Majors and a lot more

Duke University was opened in 1838 in Randolph County, North Carolina. Originally it was called as the Union Institute Academy which was then chartered as a teaching college named Normal College by the state of North Carolina in 1851. In 1859 the university received financial support from the Methodist Church and the schools name was changed to Trinity College.

In 1924 the school was again transformed when James Buchanan Duke funded the university and established the Duke Endowment and the charitable trust. The trustees changed Trinity College’s name to Duke University as a memorial to his father.
