Dwarka Expressway set to open today: Traffic advisory includes list of roads to avoid

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Dwarka Expressway, India’s first elevated urban highway. The long-awaited project will be inaugurated on Monday in Gurugram, along with several other infrastructure projects, including the new Ring Road around Delhi and 112 national highway projects.

Gurugram Police issued a traffic advisory urging commuters to avoid the Dwarka Clover Leaf route towards IMT until 4 pm and provided alternative routes. Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from using the expressway after 5 pm. Delhi Traffic Police also issued an advisory for commuters to avoid certain areas between Delhi and Gurugram.

The Dwarka Expressway, also known as the Northern Peripheral Road, aims to reduce traffic congestion on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and provide an alternate route to reach the Indira Gandhi International Airport. With a cost of ₹9,000 crore, the 29-km expressway is expected to be fully operational by next year, benefiting commuters between Delhi and Gurugram.

Connecting Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana, the expressway spans 19 km in Haryana and 10 km in Delhi. It was built using 2 lakh metric tonnes of steel and 20 lakh cubic meters of concrete, making it a significant infrastructure project. The project is part of the government’s efforts to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the region.
