EC orders polling stations to have all amenities for voters amidst heat

New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) With 102 Parliamentary constituencies gearing up for polling on April 19, the Election Commission is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth voting process. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has instructed all observers to guarantee that all polling stations are equipped with necessary amenities for voters, especially in combating the heat.

The Commission has emphasized the need for facilities such as drinking water, sheds for voters queuing up, and proper seating arrangements outside the polling stations during the voting process. Additionally, Voter Assistance Booths will be set up at all polling stations to assist voters, with special provisions for differently abled, women, elderly, and leprosy-affected voters.

Central observers have been tasked with ensuring that no inducements are offered close to the voting period during the first phase. They are also responsible for ensuring optimal utilization of forces and maintaining strict vigilance over law and order. The deployment of central forces and state police forces is expected to be neutral, without favoring any political party or candidate.

The Election Commission has mandated the use of various IT applications such as C-vigil, Voter Helpline App, Saksham App, ENCORE, and Suvidha App by election staff. Proper training will be provided to ensure the effective use of these applications. This comprehensive approach aims to streamline the election process and promote transparency.
