ECI requests report on Income Tax search at Abhishek Banerjee’s helicopter from CEO

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has requested a report from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, regarding the search operation conducted by the Income Tax Department in the chopper used by Trinamool Congress national General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Additional CEO Arindam Niyogi confirmed this development, stating that a detailed report will be submitted to the ECI by the district election officer.

Abhishek Banerjee alleged that I-T officials prevented his chopper from going on a trial run following the search operation. He expressed his intention to take legal action against the hindrance of the trial run. Three officials appointed by the ECI arrived at the flying club where the chopper is located, without disclosing the purpose of their visit to the media.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the reported search operation on her nephew’s chopper, stating, “I-T officers checked his chopper thinking there was gold and cash in it. We do not move around with such things like the BJP leaders.” The incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about the motives behind the search operation conducted by the I-T Department.
