Editor of Tripura’s first daily Paritosh Biswas passes away
Paritosh Biswas, veteran journalist and the editor of Tripura’s first daily ‘Jagaran’, passed away at his residence in Agartala on Friday. Biswas, 73, had been battling kidney and related ailments for several years. His contributions to journalism were significant, as he led ‘Jagaran’ since 1981.
‘Jagaran’, a Bengali daily founded in 1954, played a pivotal role in the state’s media landscape. Biswas leaves behind his wife and journalist son, Sandip Biswas. His demise has elicited condolences from political leaders and media fraternity in Tripura.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP leader Jishnu Dev Varma, CPI-M Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, and state Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha expressed sorrow over Biswas’ passing. The Information and Cultural Affairs Department officials also paid their respects to the late editor at his residence.
Ramakanta Dey, the Secretary of Agartala Press Club, highlighted the profound impact of Biswas’ death on the media community in Tripura. The final rites of Biswas were conducted on Friday night at the Battala mass cremation ground in Agartala, marking the end of an era in Tripura journalism.
